I am the creator of Trauma Informed Yin Yoga Teacher Training. With 12 years of experience in leading yoga teacher training globally, I weave neuroscience with ancient wisdom in the training, designed to help others regulate their nervous systems through the practice of yin yoga and somatics.
I always like to say there is a difference between doing yoga and being yogic. Before becoming a yoga teacher, I was a professional contemporary dancer in Canada. My earliest memory of doing yoga asana was when I was 17. At the time, during my training, my sole intention of practicing yoga was to get stronger and more flexible. It wasn't until years later, in my mid-twenties, that a broken heart propelled me onto my spiritual path. To heal, I found myself drawn to yoga. I couldn't remember what style of yoga I did or what poses I held. All I could remember was the sound of OM. I felt safe and held in the collective sound of OM at the end of each class. That experience led me to decide to become a yoga teacher.
If someone had asked me years ago what the journey of a broken heart looks like, I would have never imagined it would involve devotion. I met my heart teacher, Sri Dharma Mittra, and completed my 500-hour and 800-hour teacher training with him in New York City. From Sri Dharma, I learned about devotion and compassion. It became clear to me that my purpose in the world was to demonstrate compassion and assist others in healing their broken hearts.
Having explored different forms of yoga, I was captivated by the healing potential of yin yoga. As I close my eyes and deepen into the poses, I mindfully traverse my internal landscape. I was struck by the profound emotional release that accompanied my practice, prompting me to embark on a quest to understand how yin yoga facilitates emotional healing. Along the way, I delved into the study of Qi Gong, Tai Chi, Chinese meridians, acupressure, and more.
My latest curriculum is the trauma-informed yin yoga teacher training, designed to help regulate the nervous system through yin yoga and somatics. I created this training in response to the significant need in our world today. Around 70% of people globally will experience a potentially traumatic event during their lifetime. This training integrates neuroscience with ancient wisdom and encompasses everything that has helped me heal on my path. It has already graduated hundreds of yogis around the world and counting. My purpose has never been clearer: Let's Heal the World, One Soul At A Time.
